Still

The story

A new form of remembrance, written in the language of life.

How Still… came to exist, why it looks the way it does, and the commitments behind it.

A Still… held by the fireplace

A founder’s note

I started with a simple conviction: remembrance should not have to look like death.

Too many ashes sit in cupboards because the available objects feel too heavy, too obvious, or too final. Still… exists to create a quieter alternative — something beautiful enough to live with, ordinary enough to sit in the open, and meaningful enough to return to.

The candle burns. The base remains. The ritual continues.

The principle

The conventional memorial industry presents itself in tones of weight, gravity, and sombre formality. Still… deliberately rejects that register. Solemnity is not the same as respect. Warmth is respect — when it remembers the warmth the person brought.

Grief is heavy enough on its own. The product the customer brings into their home does not need to amplify the weight. It should warm the room. It should smell like a Sunday morning. It should remind the customer of who their person was, not that they are gone.

How we make it

The Still… base is a one-inch thick, white, stone-like object measuring approximately ninety millimetres square. It is poured to order in our Melbourne facility from a proprietary resin formulation that holds 63% cremated remains by weight — a number no comparable product in market approaches.

The candle vessel is sourced from a small craft house in Italy or Portugal. Final assembly — pairing the vessel with the bespoke base — happens in Melbourne, by hand. We do not offshore anything that touches the remains. The chain of custody for cremated remains carries trust requirements that make any other arrangement unacceptable.

The 51% Giving Commitment

Still… is one of several brands inside the Still With Us Group. The Group commits a minimum of 51% of distributable net profit annually to vetted poverty elimination work, primarily in East Africa. Independently audited. Reported each financial year. A light for them. Life for someone else.

Who is making it

Still Candles is founded by Benjamin Ferguson, who serves as managing director of Still Holding Pty Ltd. The founding team is small and deliberate. A perfumer collaboration is in formal discussion. A Head of Brand and a Head of Operations will be recruited following the close of this round. An independent director joins the board within six months. An Impact Committee oversees the Group’s 51% commitment.
